- Make sure you follow the law.
You'll need to follow Morgantown's city ordinance that addresses chickens and other domestic fowl. In general, if you have more than two chickens, you'll need to make sure their pen, coop, or other structure is located 80 feet or more from another person's dwelling unless you have their written consent. You'll also need to make sure the chickens and their housing don't become offensive, noxious, or harmful to health so you don't run afoul of the law. In addition, if you live in an HOA community, chickens probably aren't allowed.
