Morgantown, WV Outdoor Winter Activities - Heritage Real Estate Co.

Coming down with a case of cabin fever? Our real estate agents know the best antidote. Head for these lively outdoor activity spots around Morgantown when you need a dose of fresh air, sunshine, and exercise.

  • White Park - 1001 Mississippi St., Morgantown, WV 26501
Hiking may be the perfect outdoor activity. It requires no special skill or equipment, and the only gear you need is a solid pair of footwear. White Park, just minutes from Morgantown homes for sale, features 5 miles of wooded trails for hiking or cross-country skiing. If the weather's a little too chilly, enjoy another popular winter sport with a skating session at the Morgantown Ice Arena, located inside the park. White Park hiking trails are open 24/7. Visit the Ice Arena's website for information about public skating times, admission prices, and skate rental fees.

  • Deckers Creek Trail - 389 Spruce St., Morgantown, WV 26505
Situated in Morgantown's picturesque Wharf District, Hazel Ruby McQuain Park is the jumping-off spot for Deckers Creek Trail. The nearly 20-mile stretch extends from Morgantown to Reedsville, following the path of a former rail corridor and providing great cross-country trails. Check out views of an active limestone mine as well as secluded woodsy areas. On the park grounds, Deckers Creek also intersects with Caperton Trail for additional cross-country opportunities.

  • Chestnut Ridge Park - 346 Chestnut Ridge Camp Rd., Bruceton Mills, WV 26525
Remember those days of flying down a snowy hill on top of a sled? Create some new winter memories with your own kids at Chestnut Ridge Park, conveniently located near Bruceton Mills homes for sale. The main sledding hill has been regraded and improved, while a smaller hill on the other side of the field is also available. If you want a romantic weekend or extended family getaway, Chestnut Ridge has modern and rustic pet-friendly cabins for rent.

  • Coopers Rock State Forest - 61 County Line Dr., Bruceton Mills, WV 26525
With grounds covering more than 12,000 acres, it's no surprise that Coopers Rock State Forest is a top destination for cross-country skiing. Beginning right at the parking area, the advanced ski trail runs 2.3 miles of moderate-to-difficult terrain, highlighted by the iconic Henry Clay iron furnace. The easier reservoir trail, just under one mile, branches off the advanced trail, while the half-mile intermediate trail connects both. Park hours are 7 a.m. - 8 p.m. weekdays and 6 a.m. - 8 p.m. weekends.

  • West Virginia Botanic Garden - 1061 Tyrone Rd., Morgantown, WV 26508
A walk around the grounds of the West Virginia Botanic Garden may not qualify as aerobic activity, but it does your heart good in equally important ways. More than 4 miles of trails through forested land, across streams and around the wetlands of Tibbs Run Reservoir transport you to a magical place far from everyday life. If you need another reason to visit, this beloved local institution is celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2020. WVBG is open daily from dawn until 4 p.m. Admission is free for all guests, and donations may be made at the kiosk near the lower parking lot or on the WVBG website.

Life around Morgantown is an adventure, 365 days a year. Contact us at Heritage Real Estate for experienced and cheerful help buying or selling a home.
