If summer has you thinking about getting outdoors (and it should!), how 'bout some BBQ to go with a bluegrass concert at the
Hamilton Round Barn?
According to the State Journal's "55 Good Things About West Virginia," the Round Barn is pretty cool and worth a trip all by itself. A step back in time, the historical barn displays tools and memorabelia from years gone by. But every month during the summer the Barn hosts music and BBQ.
On Saturday, June 25, from 6:00-9:00 p.m. local group Back Roads - Terry McClain (Mandolin), Joe Freeland (Lead), Ray Cooker (banjo/guitar), Tom Paugh (base), Roger Hinerman (Fiddle), and Karen Evans (voice) - will be serving up bluegrass, oldies and Gospel to go with your BBQ. Admission is $5 per person and another $5 will get you a plate of pork BBQ with all the fixin's.
The Round Barn is located at 338 Flaggy Meadow Road in Mannington, 10 miles north of Fairmont on Rt. 250 North. Originally built in 1912 and restored in 1982, the Round Barn is operated by the West Augusta Historical Society along with the Wilson School Museum.
I you can't make it on the 25th, don't despair. They offer tours May through September on Sundays from 1:30 to 4 p.m. or by prior appointment for groups. For more information, call 304-986-7053 or 304-986-1252.
